Hi everyone!

(Read until the end for participating in the giveaway and to know how to get your free die cut files!)

Today I got a peek at "Your December Story" (that's the December class thought by Debbie Hodge) and I'm giving away a free pass to the class!!

As I told you earlier this month, I am doing a December Daily type of album this year again and since it is my 4th year of doing it, it has become a little repetitive so I wanted to mix things up a bit this year!!

I checked out lesson 1 of Debbie Hodge's Your December Story this weekend, and I LOVED it!

Your December Story is shaped around the Hero's Journey

This December, like Dorothy dropped into Oz or Alice tumbled into Wonderland, you will receive a call to adventure. You will move from the ordinary world into a one of magic and tests as the holiday season arrives.

Many of the most-loved and best remembered stories play out in a story form described by Joseph Campbell as "the hero's journey." This class has prompts and page ideas for visual storytelling that have you telling Your December Journey, from the heralds, to the challenges, mentors, special tools and the return to the known world and what you take forward.

This is what I think of the class and how it inspired me

The lesson came with 20 prompts, lots of ideas of stories that could be told right now, even before December has arrived, different ways of telling each of the stories, layout design ideas and even ideas for possible titles!

After answering the prompts (it took me about 20 minutes to do that) I started going through the lesson and I had to stop several times to jot ideas down. My head was spinning!! In a (very) good way!! :)

Since it's still very early in November, I tried to limit myself to two pages of my story "leading to December". I'm pretty pleased with my pages which are setting the tone and helping the reader to embark IN THE STORY with me. Here are my first two pages:

The first page is our November everyday life. I chose to make a mosaic of small moments that shape our everyday life at the moment.

These small moments include: the bedtime story, the evening bath, weekends activities with daddy, the girls playing together, Maya alone with mommy, pick-up from school on dance days. I could have put many more photos, but these are the one I chose to go with.

I added more details in my journaling.

And small embellishment clusters + lots of gold!! :)

My second page is all about welcoming the Spirit of Christmas into our lives. Lesson 1 invites you to look around and see what is already there, at this time of the year. I was pleased that I could include all these moments in my album. In my classic December Daily album, I would have probably left them out. Sadly.

Even my Christmas card made it in the album! :)

And Santa is already sitting at the mall, waiting for us and waving and chanting Ho!Ho!Ho!
(you can go here to check the front page of my album and to check the supplies I am using)

I am definitely in the spirit of Christmas and I am ready to document our December story in a new way and in a more global way than just documenting one moment a day. Are you in?! :)

If you like what you read and saw here and if you are interested in joining me on this December journey, please register to the class using this link:

Click here to visit Get It Scrapped.

(Keep in mind that I am earning a commission on this so your support is truly appreciated if you decide to join us on the journey! :)

**GIVEAWAY!!!

(If you already purchased the class, you'll get a $24 gift card good for any other GIS/MSD classes.)

**FREE Die cut and Printable files

While working on my December album, I wanted to try my hand at making some customized files and I came up with a couple of die cut files that will work perfectly with your Silhouette:

And some overlays for your photos (or you could print them onto card stock or patterned papers):

It is likely that I will make more and share them as I go, but for now you can get these for free. All I ask is that you become a member of my blog. When it's done, send me an e-mail: mariepierre_c(at)hotmail(dot)com.
Write "Die cut files" in the subject line and I'll send them to you shortly after per e-mail.
If you are already a member and want the files, send me an e-mail and I'll be happy to send them your way!! :)

**BONUS

If you register to "your December story" using my link

Click here to visit Get It Scrapped.

I'll have a bonus file for you which is the title of the class in a cut file. Just send me an e-mail. If you already registered through me and want the file, send me an e-mail too! :)

And on that, I thank you so much for stopping by!!
Make sure you add my blog address to your Feedly or that you become a member of the blog to follow me on my December journey and to know when I'll share more cut files. I still have no concrete plans, but I'm pretty sure I'll get to play more with my Silhouette during the month of December when I do so, you'll know it first! :)

Your next stop on the blog hop will be:

Have fun!! :)

Sincerely,

Marie-Pierre

I plan to do a December Daily album (hybrid) this year, with a mixture of photos and stories of our holiday preparation and simple, daily happenings. I also plan to feature more in-depth memories of 2013 with more detailed scrapbook pages. I am already doing lots of prep work, hoping that this will make my chances of completing this project much higher!

i'm going to take pictures daily and write in my journal the day-to-day activities for this month

Wow! I love what you've done so far, and those cut files are stunning! I plan to create a December Daily album also combing the kit from Studio Calico with a few other elements and some digital printables. I can't wait to see how your album progresses, and thanks so much for sharing everything with us :)

Wow! I have not decided if I am going to do one yet. Did one in the past and was not looking forward to another. I like your album and ideas. You included a copy of you Christmas card. In my struggle trying to find something to include, I did not put in a sample card. What a shame. Thanks for sharing. If I decide to sign up, I will be back to your blog.

Thanks for sharing the start of your project; it looks wonderful! I'm still on the fence about a December Daily but this class sure makes it look doable :)
Appreciate the chance to win!

I am VERY excited to document my December this year.
It will be my first year doing it.

I'm a little worried because I'll also be moving in December, but hey, that will just make it that much more exciting :)

Simply awesome! Tu as un talent fou ma belle!

I've never done a December album. Although intrigued by the idea, I never felt I would have enough to complete one since it is just my husband and I at home and the "Kids" are in their 30's.

I'm planning a pocket page approach, using a pretty striped book that Stampin'Up! has out this year. Your ideas and pages are wonderful! I'd totally love to come back and visit.

I do a holiday album each year from Thanksgiving to New Years. It has current activities from me and the (older) kids as well as photos from past Christmases of all of us. I also include photos from holiday family gatherings and those people are encouraged to write about what they are thankful for this past year.

Heather Prins said...

oh my gosh your pages are lovely!

Your pages are lovely! I love the idea that our album will begin in November! I plan on doing PL-style pocket pages and incorporate it within my Project Life album.

I hadn't really been planning on it but this hop and the idea of an "adventure" into the holidays is really putting me in the mood. Maybe a mini album of some sort.

I plan to do a digital December album. Not sure about the Daily part yet, or if it'll be more story based.

Wow, this sounds really unique and different way of experiencing the holidays. I love the concept. I plan on documenting the holidays with stories of friends and loved ones from this year. I'll do traditional probably so I can include cards and such. Thanks for the chance to win!

I started a Daily december once, but just didn't keep it up. I'm looking forward to one that is different, and may require fewer layouts and fewer daily photos.

I am planning on documenting my December story. I have never done this before but I am totally intrigued by this idea. I love story and I feel drawn to the magic. I am already registered to the class!

I'm trying to attempt it. I have worked up a few pages so far!

Wow, your mall has a fancy Santa house!! I don't like it that it's all ready before Thanksgiving! Your pocket pages are lovely, but I am going to try a digi december documentation this year. And then I'll print a book at shutterfly or somewhere like that.

I had planned on just continuing with Project Life, but now you all have me rethinking this plan and maybe adding in this class. I love the idea of telling more stories vs. just documenting events. Thanks.

Still trying to decide if I am going to document December. Thanks for the chance to win.

Ashley B said...

Yes, I am going to document December - not sure if I will keep to the "daily" part, but hopefully I will get most of our traditions and some unexpected memories!

I am still undecided I am always so busy with 6 kids and I feel like I would lose before trying. Unless I try a class I will probably be after the fact! Thanks for the chance to win! ~God bless!

Not sure how I'm going to do one, but I am. I'm excited because my girls want to get involved!

I'm using the studio calico kit (first time ever buying anything from them). My hubby and two boys (ages 5 &7) are all on board to make this a family documented album. They love to draw, write, and take photos. Can't wait. I think the class would help us make sure we capture unthought of details!

I'm planning to document December some how, I just haven't figured out exactly how yet.

I plan to record my Dec. in notes and pictures along the way. Then in Jan when the snow is flying and the temps plummet I plan to put it all together on a beautiful way. Grandchildren will make it gorgeous!

I am really looking forward to digging into this class. I am still mulling over my plan - but I am thinking about a mini album - just not a December Daily version (did that before and am not ready to do that again). I am waiting to see how much writing I am doing before deciding on the format.

I'm doing the December Daily using the Studio Calico kit to document my December. Planning on a page a day.

I'm hoping to do my story digitally using templates and lists

I'm doing the December Daily for the first time this year using the Studio Calico kit and 8x8pocket pages. Planning to do a page a day until December 31.

sts2000 said...

Definitely need to do it this year and not have an utter FAIL as in year's past.

Tiffany said...

I'll be documenting my December story, but just as regular pages in my yearly album. It won't be a separate project.

Deb Van Caster said...

I'm going to try and write down the things my kids say. Photos aren't the problem--it's remembering their personalities through their words.

Suz said...

I'm doing holiday daily traditional mini book style. With grown kids I want to capture our quirky traditions and new things we are doing

Love your pages especially the cover page. The sil files caught my eye right way. Thanks for op to win class and for sharing files

Unknown said...

Most likely as a December Daily type mini album. So much to do so little time in which to do it.

Jill said...

I am not sure if I will do this project as I am in the middle of two others. It does sound fun though.

As I am looking at your pictures and realize that I know that mall. I was there last weekend and I was shocked to see Santa there so early.
My intention is to do a daily. I tried last year but all of the Christmas stuff got in the way and my daily album didn't happen. but I am trying to be more organized this year.

Gab said...

I'm not sure if I'm going to document my December! But I'd love a chance to win Debbie's class

I plan on making digital pages for recording my December this year. I want to do a similar album with a December through the years theme where I take at least one picture from each of my childhood Christmases (what is the plural of Christmas???) and write any memories of what I might remember. I think it would be a lot of fun! Your cut files are absolutely beautiful! Thanks for the chance to win!

Kelly said...

I would love to document my december but I have never done this so everything would be new to me.

Have asked for a Silhouette from Santa--love what you have done. Trying to get into the holiday spirit this year and falling flat. Looking for inspiration!
