Get it Scrapped - Long shadows

Hi everyone!
Salut tout le monde!

Did you hear that long shadows were in in design right now? How do I know that? Debbie Hodge told me. :) Do you know her? She's the head of the Get it Scrapped Website and membership. And she's fabulous!! So knowledgable on everything design and scrapbooking. If you haven't taken any classes from her yet, I would suggest you get registered over at Get it Scrapped and you'll receive some free starting classes. And afterwards, if you don't want to pay for the membership, you can always go to the blog. The articles are always filled with informations and examples. It's a great source of ideas and knowledge. :) So anyway, this month I was asked to make something with long shadows. Mmmm, how was I going to do that? First I thought I could play with the title. It would be fairly easy to create a shadow with my Silhouette or even with watercolor. But then I decided to play with my photo instead!

So I chose a story from our last trip to Disney World. Maya absolutely wanted to see Winnie the Pooh because it's her favorite she said, so after we took the picture I asked her if she had told Winnie that he was her favorite and she went back to the caracters and told Tigger that he was her favorite! (what?????!) Yeah, well, 4 year old are unpredictable! ;) So anyway, Tigger was great, he made all kind of gestures to show her how flattered he was and I could almost see him turn red. :) So I decided to add a proud and in love kind of shadow to Tigger. Where did I find a shadow like that you may ask? Well, I googled or Pinterest Tigger silhouette and found that great font with all kind of Winnie the Pooh silhouettes. I picked the Tigger one and made it extra big, placed it on the right on ma canvas and added some hearts around the head. In Photoshop I turned down the opacity and voilà, I had a perfect shadow! I printed it directly on my 12x12 cardstock.

(????!) Les enfants de 4 ans sont imprévisibles! hihihi!

Bref, Tigrou a bien réagi. Il était tout fier et content. On l'a presque meme vu rougir.

I embellished with mainly red and orange bits and pieces. I found lots of cute things in my Freckled Fawn kits.

And I added some Pretty Little Studio gold pieces. Did you notice the patterned paper behind my photo? It's a gold foil wood motif. So awesome!!!!

Thanks for visiting me over and over again. I really appreciate it. :)
Talkt to you real soon!

Merci de continuer à passer me voir. :)
À bientôt!!!

Marie-Pierre

Get it Scrapped- a cut file

Hi everyone!
Salut tout le monde!
Today I'm going to show you a page I made for Get it Scrapped, starting from a cut file.

If your interested, you can grab the cut file by clicking on the image above.

Here's the page I made with it.

I cut out the template twice. once in white cardstock and once in glittery gold cardstock so that I had frames to work with and to make a nice contrast.

I adhered a colorful patterned paper behind the white background and I left some windows without frames. Like the first window here where I wrote the beginning of my story. On some other, I used the golden frame over a picture and I adhered the little frame with foam dots so that we can still have a glimpse of the green cardstock under it. The foam dots under every frames give a nice dimension to the page.

For some other pictures I used the white frames. It's fun to see the patterned paper shine through the heart openings.

I finally added some embellishments here and there, respecting the space between the embellishments and the frames.

Have fun playing with the template and if you do create something with it, come back here and leave me a link. :) I'd love to see what you do!

Don't forget to pin the file too. :)

Getting up to date with Project Life

Hi everyone!

Ah, it feels so good to be back scrapbooking again! This long withdrawal (for those who don't know, we just moved and I was without my studio for over a month!!) wasn't funny but I used my time wisely and got working on some scrapbooking related projects for which I was only needing a pen and some paper. :) More to come on that very shortly, I hope.

Ok so what I missed most while "on the go" was my computer and my printer. Had I been able to print pictures, I think I could/would have worked on my Project Life. Although….in our small hotel room, it would have been hard. So anyway, when we got our office back, that's what I started doing: printing pictures and putting them into pockets! My head was spinning with all the memories that were fresh and that I didn't want to lose grip of.

When I got my album back, my first idea was to go and see where I had stop. And I was surprised to see that my last week done was the first week of May. For sure we were only one month in a hotel room, but before the move I had many assignments to do for my design teams (had to finish all the pages for all the design teams and commitments for until the end of August!) So that, plus the never ending showings of the house to potential buyers that were happening weekly during 3 MONTHS!!! And there was my husband who was traveling every week so that I was left alone with the kids and the house needing to be tidy, all the time! ….. I really hadn't had time (or the head) for my Project Life album. But now I am back and I am motivated to fill every single missing week! Oh yes!! :)

So my plan?! Well, I will work backwards from now until May and I'll be careful to stay up to date in the current month. I already filled some weeks. Let me show you weeks 34-35-36. I also did week 33 but since it was a week spent at Disney, I'll keep it for a separate blog post. So here we go:

WEEK 34

Week 34 was the week I came back from Disney with the girls and my parents. The day we were on the road, Patrick was getting all the furniture and boxes at the new house. We still had one night to sleep at the hotel and then we could enter our new home! :) After 21 days as homeless.

For this week I used the new Dreamy kit from Heidi Swapp. I love the soft colors and positive words. It makes my album look very calm.

I mixed it with some Studio Calico Project Life kit's elements, like this specific card at the bottom right.

WEEK 35

I'm very pleased with week 35 which is a good mix between the cards and the pictures and which is, again, very soft and calm. I like that feeling to document an event that is quite exciting and stressful.

I love the colors. I still love the gold!

I love adding just small labels to add a few details directly on the pictures.

WEEK 36

I included lots of pictures this week!! Maya got an underwater camera on her birthday in July and now that we have a pool, we could put it to great use! :) And since we had so many fun and funny pictures to chose from, I decided to keep mostly all of them. They don't need much journaling anyway. :)

This was the first project I did in 1,5 months, remember. I started slow and kept it simple, but still had the urge to play a little bit, hence the use of the rub-on. :)

The Studio Calico monthly Project Life kit was very handy and helpful since everything was right there, in the little box. :)

Voilà for now. As I told you, next time I'll show you my week 33, spent at Disney with my parents. I was so very lucky that they came to help and support me during that time!

Oh and before I leave, one last thing, Tchoubi will be opening her store next week with loads of fun products in FRENCH!! So if you don't want to miss anything, make sure you go over there and subscribe to the newsletter! :) I'm excited about it. I have a scrapbook page over there that I'll be showing you very soon! :)

Big hugs,
Marie

PS: oh and a big thank you to everybody who is still subscribing at my blog and asking for my die cuts. I still have them and I can still pass them on to you if you want! You only have to go here and follow the directions. :)

Pretty Little Studio | Out of the box

Hi everyone!

I love it when I have a challenge as a starting point for a page.
This week I had to get my inspiration from a picture.

I started to look at what I loved about it: 1. The translucent colors reminding me of watercolor. 2. The three primary colors: blue, red and yellow. 3. The golden feel of the sun peeking behind the yellow balloon. 4. The round shapes.

Then I started to think about how I could translate that on a page.

I could have two big circles. One would contain my picture(s), the other, the journaling.
My circles could be stitched and filled with watercolor.
I could add gold accents.
I could use all round shaped embellishments.

Here's what I came up with:

As I was going through my stash in search of a background, I came across this watercolor background I had made months ago!!! It was not perfect for the project but it was fine. (Remember, with the upcoming move, half my scraproom is gone! And I didn't want to start making a mess.)

I traced two circles several times with a pencil and I stitched somewhat near the lines. I didn't erase them afterwards. It's gives dimension, fun and a feel of imperfection. I like that!

I used round shaped embellishments which I filled with gold accents.

I added round ephemera that I had brought back from our trip to Disney: a couple of flairs, a Mickey Mouse sticker and also some paper gold doubloons. Two of them are made of gold foil. PERFECT! :)

I added a couple touches of color (tabs) and some more hand written touches like the little heart up here.

Finally I added a trail of gold stars.

I decided not to write my journaling in one of the circles as I thought I would do at the beginning because I didn't want to fill up these nice breathing spaces.

I hope you like to read about my process.
Maybe you could try it too, to make a page with an image (this image?) as a starting point. If you do try it, please share it with me here, or on the Pretty Little Studio blog post for a chance to win a price.

Good luck! And HAVE FUN!!

twice a year, I make cakes

Hi everyone!
Just for a little change, I would like to show you the cake I made for Maya this year as she turned 3.
There was no real celebration. My parents were here and a friend of mine came over for cake with her 2 kids, but beside that, nothing special happened. Well, there was the cake. :)

Maya is very much into Winnie the Pooh since a couple of months so my husband wanted me to try that. You know, it's hard to make characters..... like Winnie the Pooh vs a Teddy bear. Or like Tigger vs a tiger. Or like Piglet vs a pig..... And when I got to it I thought, ok, what have I got myself into??

I thought I'd start with Winnie the Pooh and that if I could get that right, I'd stop and do something else. And well, my first attempt was bad.... How bad? Bad enough for me not to have any picture of it anymore.... But if you know me better than that, you'd know that when I said if it didn't work I'd do something else, you'd know that I wouldn't quit after only one attempt. ;) So I moved on to piglet, made Eeyore and came back to Winnie, and in one evening, I had achieve this:

I was pretty confidence for the rest, but Tigger wouldn't be easy. in fact, I had NO IDEA how to make the head. But after 4 hours working on it, I managed to get something nice:

I wouldn't know how to make it again.... and he's my favorite of the gang.

The night before the decoration of the make, Arielle wanted to help me so we made flowers together.

And hadn't she spill the whole bottle of yellow beads in the spilled glue....it would have been a big help. ;) But anyway, we had a good time together and it was fun. That night I made all the flowers and mushrooms, honey pots and bees and the next morning I "only" have to put everything that on the cake!!  At the end it looked like this.

And Maya was happy. My husband too. Arielle too. And me, well, as always, I was happy that I could prove to myself that I can do things that I don't think I'll be able to do.
Here are some pictures of the birthday. :)

And if you wonder.... YES! We eat them!! They are the best part.

Last year I took a class with Heidi Swapp and one prompt was: how do you show love? And every time I make a cake now I think of her. It takes a lot of time and a lot of time to make a cake like these. But the kids really enjoy them. And when their birthdays are coming they don't ask for a gift, they ask for a cake so, it makes it worth it. :)

See you soon with another scrapbook page, or two!! :)
