Wilna Furstenberg | Art to Heart workshop

Hello everyone!

Yesterday I was supposed to clean the house. Well, actually I did begin to clean the house but as always when I'm cleaning, I like to listen/watch videos from Wilna's class. So that's just what i was doing (I am currently taking the amazing Art to Heart workshop) when I suddenly got so inspired and fired up, I had to stop everything and make a layout. Cleaning can always wait, right?! :)

So here's my layout:

Very simple as Wilna would say, but with some mixed media techniques going on so, it was a little bit messy. lol

I used Wilna's Adventure collection, which you get for free if you get the class, but which you can buy without buying the class if you prefer it this way. :) I really really love this collection because it is so different than what we see in all the other companies. The african animals are just gorgeous and they are paired with the theme of adventure.

The sun rays were made using a Tim Holz stencil and molding paste mixed with Heidi Swapp Color Shine spray in mustard. Wilma was using a stencil to make her page in the video but she was using it with ink an gel medium. I didn't have any of that so i went with what I had. The idea of coloring the paste yellow came from a discussion we were having over on the Scrap Gals FB group about products we buy and don't use hardly enough. My sprays came to mind (I have every color + Heidi's craft mat on my desk but I rarely think of my sprays) so I decided to put them to good use. :) I really love the color it gives to my page.

Here's a close up of the die cuts. I used my silhouette to print and cut them. They are GORGEOUS, I'm telling you.

Ok, so now that I din't clean yesterday, i got to get to it! hihihi! My brother is coming for the weekend and he's arriving in a couple of hours. We're very excited about that!! :)

Have a lovely day my friends!!

an ode to my friend and some watercolor love

Hi everyone!!
it feels unreal..... I'm leaving in a couple of hours, no kids, just my husband and I.
My in-laws are here and will take care of the kids while we're away.
We are going to Orlando, our favorite destination, even without kids!

Before I leave, I wanted to show you something I made 2 weeks ago when I went to visit my parents in Quebec. I have my best scrappy friend there so I brought us some goodies to play and make a page together, something that had never happened before. Sure, when Gen comes here we do get to scrap, but usually we both work together on one page (mine or hers, it depends on who needs help), but this time I wanted that we both do our own page and I also wanted to push Gen out of her comfort zone (she ALWAYS do double page layouts and it's ALWAYS about/for her kids!) and have her do something artsy, a single page, about HER! :) So we did!

I brought all the material we would need and I let her have a peek into Wilna's art class which I LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!! We watched Wilna do a page, and we then did the same. Here we are:

(Notice the bag of chips in the background!) ;)

Here's our set up, at my parent's dining table:

And here are our pages:

(mine)

(Gen's)

Aren't they cool?? :)

One thing Gen struggles with when scrapbooking is the journaling. So to help her, I decided the theme of the page (even cut a title for her with my Silhouette) and I sent her an e-mail the day before our meeting telling her she had to write down 34 things she likes at the moment. Well, 5 minutes after the e-mail was sent, she wrote me back sayong it was done. See, when you are not writing FOR a scrapbook page, I think it's easier to write. Maybe because there's no pressure, or the expectations are less high? Anyway, Gen' style is usually very graphic and tidy and .... perfect!!!! So I was happy to see her let go and have fun and play. And it was very fun to see that with exactly the same supplies, we got to very different styles. :)

So that's it for today.
Love you Gen!!

Talk to you soon!
I'm off to (not so) sunny Orlando! ;)

Weather Alert!

I know, spring is around the corner and there is no weather alert to be seen. But since we ive in Connecticut we've seen so many weather alert, some of them for not much if you ask me (I grew up in Quebec, Canada, so I've seen worst), so I decided to make a page about the biggest storms we experience since living here.

Here are some details shots:

I cut my title directly in a 12x12 card stock with my Sihlouette and backed it with some pattern paper. One half red, and the other blue.

The first snow storm was in January 2011 when we were living in Farmington. I backed the picture with some rub-ons and a little bit of watercolor. I added some snowflakes and red stars and a tiny tag.

Second thing that happened was our basement that was flooded during hard rain for several hours and a lot of snow melting at the same time.
Here again some watercolor as a background and I also added a stamp that I stamped in red, some washi tape and some rub-ons that mimic water.

The camera was stamped with staz-on ink on a sheet of plastic and I fussy hand cut it.

Third event: Hurricane Irene.
I backed the picture on watercolor and added some leaves that I stamped and embossed in white on green paper.

Fourth event: Snowstorm Alfred
Watercolor paint, washi tape...

Fifth event: Hurricane Sandy, we left Ct.
The same red stamped image to back the picture and the snowflakes are here too.

And the last event was the big snowstorm we had in february.
The red behind my picture is a rub-on. I also added a tag that I embossed with white glitters.

The photos are all mounted in a circle on some silver thread.
For this layout I was inspired by my Art Class with Wilna Furstenberg
It's a wonderful class and if you are looking to learn some new techniques or even only to refresh the techniques you already know, Wilna's class is a GREAT SOURCE OF INSPIRATION!! I love it to pieces!!!!

Talk to you soon!
I promise to show you some Project Life layouts very soon!! ;)
