Get it Scrapped - A photo that I didn't take

Hi everyone!
Salut tout le monde!

This month again, what a fun assignment I received from my Get it Scrapped team: scrapbook a picture that you didn't take. Well, how funny that I had proposed to my good scrappy friend Genevieve in July to scrapbook a picture of her daughter. I finally didn't have time in July, nor in August, but thanks to GIS, it happened in September! :)

Why did I want to scrapbook her daughter's picture you might ask? Well, I saw it on Facebook paired with a really cool quote and it grabbed me by the heart. I had to make a layout!

Forget the glass slippers.
This princess wears cleats!
Oublie les souliers en verre,
Ma princesse porte des souliers de soccer!

This was the picture and the quote (written by her husband). How cool, right??
I already made two pages for Genevieve's 2 other daughters when they were born, so the idea of making a page for this little girl was almost normal. So anyway, back to my page...

The quote was about princesses, but even if I wanted the page to feel girly, I didn't want it to feel princess-y, like delicate and soft. I wanted the feel to be strong and vibrant! Because Sara was the smallest of the whole soccer clinic but she is strong and could do it, just like the others! So I went with lots of bright colors!! I wanted to play with the neon colors in the picture too. I didn't want these colors (orange and green) to stand out too much so I figured that if I'd have them in bigger quantity in my papers, it would make a balance. It worked! :)
Ça a fonctionné!

I cut out some bands and stitched them with black thread. I created some visual interest my folding and distressing the top of the bands. I added one thinner band in a glittery hot pink just so that the bloc wouldn't be too even and look fad. I mounted the picture on a white piece of cardstock and on a bigger piece of vellum with stars. I typed on the label using my typewriter and I added one single embellishment from Freckled Fawn.

For the title I used my Silhouette and I cut out the glass slippers part of the quote is light silver glitter paper. The effect in real life is stunning! For the other part of the quote, I printed it on a 12x12 piece of cardstock and cut it out in the shape of a banner. When I adhered it down in created some bumps and I adhered the first part of the quote over the 2nd part.

For the journaling, I know some people would have been struggling with what to say because it's not there photos, well, I just let my heart speak. I spoke about the picture and about the little girl (who I know) and not about the event. I did ask her mom though to give me the name of the event and the date the photo was taken.

I hope (and am sure) that my friend will cherish this page. The fun thing about it is that since she already have albums, she can only slip it in one of them. It's not like I would be giving a page to someone who has no album and nowhere to put the page.

Love that - great photo and great quote! And I really like the bands of colour in your design!
